it's a creative endeavor, I think if you ask producers and singers they will definitely call it an art form, as is all music and songwriting. Yes, some art forms are more commercially oriented than others, but that doesn't really change their underlying artistic nature.
Kpop has a lot of money behind it obviously, so to the beancounters they care about finance, charts, etc.
For fans though, why should anyone care whether Joy or Rose is more "successful"? The only thing that matters is how any of us respond to someones music. I mean, "Rollin" was top for a long time but I still personally don't like the song, so why should I care if it technically "beat" so many other artists songs that I do like?
All the "competition" talk is just meaningless Stan BS used for Stan war ammo. It's toxic to the fan experience.
