When you quote someone in a reply, you can just alter what they said?
I was just wondering what the purpose of being able to edit quotes serves?

if they later edit their post, you can edit it to reflect the new information.
or it can be used as a joke.

Well i asked several times my friends to edit something i've said too much about me and they quoted. I edited my post later and it was nice that they could edit my post they quoted also.
I think it's a good feature.

i feel like manual editing is so hard. Why doesn't it change the quote automatically to reflect original's edit?

or, it can be used to keep the original info if they later edit it to hide what they said. like for example, if a user was saying something racist and their comment gets deleted or edited, people looking at the thread later would be able to know what happened.

Well I hate poor grammar and bad spelling so sometimes I will use it to correct thiers but also when they quoted multiple people, it will all go into the text when you quote it, so you can edit other people's part out
-
I only do it sometimes when people misspell things so people understood what they meant, also if you are only trying to quote part of what they said, it is there for that too
