Singer Jeon Somi's newly launched beauty brand has been accused of unauthorized use of the Korean Red Cross logo.

It was confirmed on the 7th that Mr. A, CEO of Beaubble Korea, has been accused of violating the Korean Red Cross Organization Act. The case has been filed with the Seoul Seongdong Police Station, and an investigation is expected to follow.

According to the complaint, Mr. A violated Article 25 of the Korean Red Cross Organization Act by using the Red Cross logo on the beauty brand launched by Jeon Somi. The law stipulates that anyone other than military medical institutions or those authorized by the Red Cross to use the Red Cross emblem or similar emblems shall be subject to a fine of up to 10 million won (~6.8K USD).

The complainant stated stated, “The Red Cross emblem is a public symbol protecting medical and relief personnel so they can operate safely in crisis situations such as war, disasters, and infectious diseases.” They added, “Repeated use of similar marks in a commercial context dilutes the emblem's original meaning not only among the public but also internationally. This can damage trust and neutrality in relief operations and undermine the very foundation of the humanitarian protection system, which is directly linked to saving lives.”

GLYF, a beauty brand launched by Beauubble Korea and Jeon Somi, recently faced criticism that its new product packaging resembled the Red Cross logo. The product featured a white background with a red cross, resembling a first-aid kit.

The Red Cross emblem can only be used with authorization from military authorities (Protection Emblem) or the Red Cross Society (Distinctive Emblem). Individuals or buildings displaying the Red Cross emblem signify they are not targets for attack during war; failure to uphold this principle risks diminishing its meaning.

    1. Hul...?

    2. Wasn't she in another controversy before?

    3. Designers should just keep this in mind

    4. You really need to be careful with this kind of thing. It's such a common logo so you might not recognize it as important

    5. "The Red Cross emblem may only be used with authorization from military authorities (as a protective emblem) and the Red Cross Society (as an identification emblem). Persons or buildings displaying the Red Cross emblem signify they are not targets for attack during war; failure to respect this may diminish its meaning."
    That's what the article says.

    6. Seems like this was what it looked like. Why make such an amateur mistake?

    7. Even as a non-celebrity, I knew about this. Don't everyone in design know about it?

    8. Isn't this just basic knowledge?

    9. Comforting raw emotions like an emergency prescription???? Yeah, this is definitely blunt.

    10. I thought that it was just a model but she's really launching it

  • I know I-DLE got some heat last year from red cross for one of their Klaxon performance.

  • So the cross is trademarked or the font?

It’s the Red Cross symbol on a white background, but it’s not just trademarked, it’s protected by a Geneva convention.

There was a time when they stepped down on its use in video games, and many had to be patched to remove it from medi-packs and other game items.
