What's your EPs/Album(s) of the Year so far?

  • We're about halfway through the year, so which album have gone diamond on your playlist?

I think my album of the year might be Jeong Don Won's THE GIFT OF DADDY-LONG-LEGS. It's just very solid all around. Not a single skip. 10+ songs. All decent length:

Very surprised that I heard no one talking about it.

Jennie's Ruby is also up there:

It feels she peaked a bit higher, but there are some okay songs on there, which actually drop the album as a whole. Jeong's are consistently good throughout.

Some others that I want to shout out are Kandis's Playground, which is very solid all around:

Hynn's Unspoken Goodbye, which I would probably place third overall at the moment:

I was listening to Jennie's Ruby just as this thread came up, so that's definitely in my list too. I love Blackpink but I think Jennie's album eclipses all BP albums by several magnitudes.

Winding back to the start of the year, I have to pick Yves second EP (the deluxe edition came out in January). Yves is definitely my favourite of the post-Loona groups/solos. She has a really charming and authentic vibe to her solo, and most importantly loads of bangers.

Top picks are Viola, Gone Girl, DIM and See You In Hell.

Stepping beyond mainstream kpop and going into the wider k-music scene, Effie released her E EP in March, and it's incredible. Imagine if Charlie XCX, Skrillex and Bladee merged into a single Korean sad-girl rapper/Hyper-pop artist. I recommend 'Maybe Baby' from this EP (or even better her later single More Hyper)

Last pick is Illit's Bomb EP. I was really blown away by this one and it turned me overnight into an Illit fan (I used to call them my "mortal enemies" before I began this redemption arc).

Actually the A-side (Do the Dance) is the worse song on the EP. It's still listenable, but Little Monster, Bamsopoong and Oops! are the real gems
