In 2013, there was a new star named Lorde, who, at the age of 17, released the song "Royals", which became a worldwide hit and spent 9 weeks at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100.
And that was basically the entirety of her career.
She released a few more songs after that, but did not do well and is now basically faded.
Billie Eilish's album in 2019 was the top album, and thanks to Hitman Bang's unlimited wisdom to debut txt in late 2019, her album became beat BTS' Map of the Soul : Persona, and became the top selling album of the world for 2019. (For this txt has never really been forgiven by Armys)
Her next album was not exactly flop, but Olivia Rodrigo had stolen all the thunder from her and it just did OK, with no #1 in Billboard Hot 100.
Examples like that are legion. The first breakout is the best song.

Cho Yongpil, who was 63 in 2013 , sniped Psy when the letter released Gentleman, which was released in a great hype as the follow up song after the mega-success of Gangnam Style.
Older K-O-R-E-A-N-S supported the old star to the hilt, determined to teach Psy a lesson, and Cho Yongpil's sniping worked - Psy never recovered from it.
It seems IU is likely to do the sniping to Fifty Fifty later this year. Unlike most singers, IU can choose to release songs whenever she feels like, and her songwriters Lee Jonghoon (Bbibbi, Strawberry moon, etc) and Kim Jehwi (Through the Night) would have built some good rifles for her to snipe on Fifty Fifty from the back when the latter announces its comeback.
Cho Yongpil never felt any guilt about bringing Psy down and it is unlikely that IU will be any different, since her entire career since circa 2014 is killing the dreams of one newer act after another after another.
It is likely that FF's next song will be like Cupid, while Lee Jieun, to fight FF, will release a classic ballad since she can't compete FF on the latter's genre.
However, international fans by now would have found out that FF is a nugu in Korea, even after its billboard success, and if IU beats FF in the K-O-R-E-A-N digital charts, it would expose FF to the entire world and its popularity, while not completely disappearing, will be reduced a lot like Lorde and Billie Eilish.
IT would be better for FF to release NOTHING in K-O-R-E-A to avoid fighting the Senior Singer, or film a cover of her song, which is completely unpalatable for foreign fans, to pay a filial duty to stop her from attacking it, but either of it will be seen as a defeat.
The KPop majors are likely to let IU fight FF. FF's success shakes the fabric of the entire KPop industry, and like KPop's leaders being happy when ChoYongpil destroyed Psy, they will actually support the Senior Singer when she goes to fight FF to keep orders and bring everything back to the state as if nothing happened.
