Why are different generations compared?

A lot of kpop stans lack critical thinking skills, I mean you can't compare 2nd gen achievements to 3rd/4th gen achievements, 2nd gen was a different time and K-POP wasn't even as popular as it is today, of course groups are going to break 2nd gen records easily, there's more fans.
