Honestly I get when regions are split to north and south but countries...
we know that in North they use Choson (Joseon)
and in South their use Hanguk when talking about their country
that's same way as Japanese use Nihon/Nippon
when you say Deutschland everyone knows which country we talk bout
would be cool to see growth of that Hanguk naming instead of SoKor
another even weirder one is
Sudan
and South Sudan 
oh I guess north and south korea since that's what I am used to but choson and hanguk are cool too.
Wasn't there something where before the big split, Korea was referred to as "Goryeo", even by their own people and so, even though after the split, Korean people adapted new names for the respective countries but the rest of the world still referred to them as Korea but North and South because that's how it was divided up?
I learned a little about Korea's split in world history, but we more touched on it. I would be interested in going into a little more detail tho

Yep, that makes sense. Because Korea was one of those countries that there were disagreements about whether the country should follow the communism route with the USSR or democracy route with the USA so Korea actually ended up splitting because no one could agree...(it was during the Cold War where the USSR and US were head to head in spreading as much of their idealisms as possible) (I think they were having trouble because Japan recently released control of Korea)
It's sort of ironic that NK is referred to as the Democratic Republic...they aren't democratic at all! 😂 I wish those that chose to live under communism were told that they and their future generations were going to end up being trapped and oppressed (and it's still going on to this day...)

So for SK to be called Democratic Republic makes sense because they chose to go under democracy. I wish those that chose to live under communism were told that they and their future generations were going to end up being trapped and oppressed (and it's still going on to this day...)
