"BTS don't get appreciated in South Korea"

  • When the Grammy noms came out there was a lot of hoopla about the media and SK ignoring BTS's achievements from their fans, yet BTS pretty much win every award that ends up coming down to judges in recent years that is voted by industry and media personnel in South Korea.

Today was another example of them winning another award people weren't rally expecting them to win but once again, judges and experts in South Korea sided with them.

So which is it exactly? Not liked/respected by the powers that be in SK yet win pretty much every reward when it comes to winning the judges and critics criteria, or the recognition they have been getting year in year out just isn't enough?

    Approved the thread.
  • We want total domination and acknowledgement from every person in South Korea about BTS’ impact to their country.

  • If people have enough common sense, one would know that a single awards show don’t represent the whole of south korea.

  • Seriously… in fact there’s was plenty coverage on the Grammy nom this year on naver but armys take one article they don’t like (and to be fair the next bts stuff is getting old and annoying) and act like that’s the general consensus in Korean media

  • I think people are talking about the GP when they say stuff like that.

Of course they're going to win those awards judged by critics and "experts". those people just want viewers to watch their shows.

  • If people have enough common sense, one would know that a single awards show don’t represent the whole of south korea.

Their issue seems to be media coverage and acknowledgement based on what I've read. But no group is more acknowledged for their success.

You can't force the GP to care and if that really is their issue (doesn't seem like it based on recent threads here), it's a hilarious one.

  • no it's not enough

ofcourse industry experts will give bts their flowers, because they keep up with these type of things since it's their job & they know - most of the time - what is just companies mediaplaying their "nugu" groups (i mean internationally) & what are actually relevant achievements in the west e.g. 3X GRAMMY NOMINATED, AMA AOTY,... when we say "korea doesn't deserve bts" army are mostly talking about kmedia not doing their job & thus, knetz not realising what they actually have. kmedia (naver says hello) treats many of bts' never-done-before-records as a fun little thingamabob, while mediaplaying the smallest achievements of any other group... they turned huge cities like LA, LV & Seoul completely into BTS-town (something never seen before) & you still had many knetz surprised that 100k foreigners came to see a korean act??? i can't even blame them because, unless you keep up with very specific social media forums, you would have almost no idea how immense they are on global scale.

have you seen how Argentina prepared for jins visit? how Qatar received jk? how almost any non korea country treats bts? They closed of big highways to let them pass with police security, the most praised media coverage bts has gotten in years - on literally every relevant channel for his whole stay in argentina/qatar, ... quite literally treated them like royals. foreign politicians and important people keep saying that bts is literally the start & end of every conversation when korea is brought up and often that what pushes deals through. BTS are for korea like what Riri is for Barbados, yet there's a big difference how both are treated by their homecountry. Let me just say, if bts were from any other country & they had brought the same insane achievements they have done for korea, they would have gotten a national holiday in their name or something.

You talk about it yet you don't know why armys mostly mad? Do you know what the headline they put in all kmedia including national tv and local newspaper when Bts fail to win Grammys? They call them a failure, not congratulating them instead. Even J-media showers Bts with praises and love. And they downplaying them a lot. It's like what they get now is very easy to get. When western media discriminated them, what k media do? They just quite, they said nothing at all to defend them. And they do a lot of things more that too much to write here.

And this is not a secret anymore. Many said because their success not because of k media, they don't gain anything from Bts and Bts would never own them anything. And someone from big 3 that having this kind of achievements and popularity with low media coverage, it's not what they expecting.

  • Kpop fans are salty tgat their faves will never achieve what BTS achieved. They downplay BTS’ impact for free while the K media does it for money and favors. It doesn’t change the fact that any other country would have treated BTS better.

  • Any other country would have exempted them years ago and that’s really all there is to say about Korea.

  • Any other country would have exempted them years ago and that’s really all there is to say about Korea.

As one living in a country with mandatory service: not true, as it would be against the law to exempt anyone because of status.

You must have missed how media personnel are also involved in a bunch of the awards.

Also the main push behind mediaplay is the company themselves.

Your last paragraph highlights why a lot of people find some armies deluded.

BTS aren't held to that level of reverence in South Korea because the wider population just don't find pop acts deserving of that kind of attention no matter their impact. When Dynamite hit no.1 it had a lot of push and it was one of the main reasons for its massive success domestically. If the public don't care past a wider consumption point why would the government then move mountains for them.

Also missed that Bahamas comparison and just.....what?

South Korea are one of the biggest economies in the world, with some of the biggest conglomerates in the world as well. Yes, it's not surprising a pop act no matter their success aren't seen as royalty compared to Rihanna and the Bahamas.
