nowaydays news outlets want to be first to break the story, it doesn't really matter if it's true or not. however, in this case it actually mattered. thankfully we got evidence that it was a lie and we dodged the bullet. sadly, two lives were lost

There are more than a few members of AP's editorial staff who deserve the same fate. This article got approved for publication at many levels by people who should have known what it could lead to. The only explanation - and one that is all too common in the mainstream media - is that they wanted it to be true so badly that they didn't bother doing any checking.

IF that *significant* amounts of APnews.com article content was false ...

firing that one journalist is a bs anyway, he was only a scapegoat. if the rule was to have at least two sources to publish the story why would they run the story with only having one? the decision wasn't only made by one person.
