Jhope, Mamamoo, Seulgi, Nmixx all flopping. Why is talent losing?

  • These are all very talented singers/rappers/performers, but they can’t even stay in top 50 of the charts. Why is talent being ignored?

    Approved the thread.
  • Seulgi specifically said she made the album she wanted to make and knew that it wasn't a mainstream choice - very much 'made it for the arts not the charts.' I believe J-Hope said the same basic thing. These artists know the safe route they could take for chart success and chose not to. Sometimes artists just want to make the music they want to make and tell their story. Both of them sold well so the labels will continue to finance them making the music they want.

I'd assume Mamamoo is something similar.

  • Jhope solo was anything but flop.

  • why is your only measure of succes kcharts when most of them are internationally famous??

if you follow kcharts even a little bit, you'd know that you either need a viral hit (like nj) or promotion on kshows. it's clear all of them (not nmixx since they are rookies) chose art over following the trends - making another tiktok sing & they have shown immense succes everywhere but kcharts: good yt numbers, amazing sales, good spotify numbers,...

  • Because talent was never the deciding factor in success and popularity. Kpop is not a talent show. I thought we knew this already. Visuals, marketing, and other factors are a lot more important in real life.

IU's not the most talented vocalist but she's dominating the industry cos of her image, personality, marketing and her songs that relate to the domestic public.

  • In kcharts maybe because of the songs genre? Like none of three songs are interesting enough or sounds like something gp would hit. But seulgi and jhope did decently tho, she sold lots of albums and the latter performed for a huge crowd!

This is so funny😂 chose qrt over trends.. pff

  • This thread was set up to drag Hobi and it’s unfair given the context of his album, which was absolutely not made for Korean charts appeal. Believe it or not, not everyone is obsessed with just making hits; instead he made a great ALBUM that critics adored and still won him over huge amounts of fans when he performed it live. It’s not his fault HYBE made him the canary in the mine for their doomed tech tycoon fantasies.

  • see when u put your mouth in other people business but ain't there for who u apparently stan

  • Ngl none of these songs were that good or memorable. Talent != good song.

You just need to look at the successful female solo idols over the years to notice a pattern. There's Taeyeon who's obviously very talented and successful but then there's Hyuna, Chungha and Sunmi who had success for years and they're not really what you'd call "talented" singers.

  • Talent has less correlation with success than in almost any other music industry, welcome to kpop

  • I mean, we can all call them flops clops blops or whatever, but if you look at it this way; they have been in the industry for so long that they can still make money AND release any songs that they want and still garner some interests from the GP. I call that a win anyday lol. They are so established that not winning or charting songs, would that even affect them or would they care? After doing it for so long, releasing songs for the fans are more fun than ranking.

But for some fan's ego and fantasy, I guess not charting is a very very bad thing.

another way to say i don`t have the means or full support from my company to make the music you would like, just the producers they wanted to pay. Period
