Shocked by the Rings of Power season finale! **WARNING SPOILERS**

    In the original work Sauron was never just a floating eye, that was an invention for the Peter Jackson movies. Sauron was actually known as Annatar meaning "Lord of gifts" around this period of time. Amazon probably doesn't have the rights to the storyline though and thus couldn't adapt it. They briefly allude to his Annatar disguise when they have Halbrand tell Celebrimbor to consider his suggestion a "gift" though.

    Well, Sauron is a firey eye in the LOTR movies because he's been destroyed once and now needs the One Ring to regain all his power and physical form. In the books it's a bit different but it doesn't change the fact that he's never seen in person; his physical body, whatever it is, is irrelevant to the plot.

    I didn't mean to imply it was relevant tbh. I just wanted to shed some light on why they likely chose to portray him the way they did in the series.
