[Out now!] Onewe - 'Still Here' MV

  • Yeahhh.

Well think of it as various levels of like.... obviously I do have my favorites that I spend a lot of time with, but if a not as liked song comes up... I won't skip.

I think for the groups I listed, even for their meh songs... I can get them to grow on me easily. More easily then other groups. Would it be a OMG YAS THIS SONG SLAY??? Maybe not, but it'd be like... yeah goob music I enjoy.

tell me you're whipped without telling me you're whipped lol

I guess for me songs rarely grow on me...the reason being if a song isn't my cup of tea then I find no reason to go back and give a second chance unless something unique happens because I already know the songs which I do like and there's so so many other songs waiting for me to give it a listen so why "spend" my time on a song that (yes there's always a chance albeit a small one that it will grow on me) instead of a song which I haven't heard before that has a better chance of capturing my attention - does that make sense?

    pfft

No I get that. I think that is the philosophy I take towards tv shows/movies. Like... yeah I do rewatch favorite shows sure, but rarely. I like experiencing new media much more and there is so much out there to discover.

For me with music, I do like going back to albums and discographies often. Idk why I guess I like to re-experience it and feel it again. Like with movies, when you re-listen to music, you can process it and discover new details about it. That can grow into a new appreciation, and for albums, when a body of work is put together... I think it is good to experience it as a whole now and again. I think that is a different experience from listening to a few tracks you like and skipping over some. You can see how the tracks play off each other and how they fit in the puzzle of the body of work.

I don't think most kpop artists really think deeply about theming and storytelling... at least to like a very high degree, but nonetheless, most albums have a general theme, so it is neat to see how they connect.

I just like to remember and savor music. I do it for my faves but I also do it for albums I like in general. I'm not an exo-l but I revisted Peaches a few times because I love how the whole listening experience was. Same with Golden Child's 'Game Changer'. It is a strong body of work in my eyes and fun to experience.

Sometimes I have done this with albums I don't feel strongly about. Right now Cignature and weeekly comes to mind. I guess sometimes I want to re-exam even the not as exciting experiences too.

  • one of us should make a new thread about about revisiting old songs in which a person either didn't like initially or really liked but later fell out with...

how often do you go back to listen to albums that maybe you didn't really connect with instead of the albums that you did connect with?

from my experience I don't listen to albums per se say but rather the songs from an album that's why when people ask what's my fav album I have a hard time answering since I like certain songs from an album and totally skip or don't listen to other songs from the same album...to me the song comes first and if I like a song I like a song irrespective of what the rest of the album is

I do understand where you are coming from my friend but I guess it's just not me... lol

  • :woow: good topic idea!

Sometimes when I really connect to a song, I'll relisten to the whole body of work anyways to experience it regardless if I don't feel as strongly about the work compared to that specific song... yeah I could repeat the song a bunch of times, and I do lol, but it is nice to break up that monotony and look at the song with it's context I suppose.

Usually when I listen to an album for the first time, I'll actually revisit it a couple more times at least very quickly. I suppose it helps me process the new information better and helps me give like... a final opinion so to say since I examined it thoroughly. I do this frequently with most albums I listen to regardless of how much I like it.

Then usually I'll revisit some albums regardless of like or dislike when I do a full discography run through. Though, if I am at the point of relistening to a discography for second, third, whatever time, I do probably like all the albums a little bit on some level. Still, some albums I'll feel strongly about than others, but I do like to experience it all as a whole again just because. You know, it's like reading a book start to end even if you could skip to your favorite part.

Sometimes, not as often though, I'll think about a work I listened to in the past, and revisit it for fun. Usually it is work I like, but it can be work I might not be as into. It doesn't happen as often because... yeah a work I don't care for probably won't be on my mind, but I can't say it didn't happen.

But yeah different ways to listen to music really! It's about what you're looking to experience!

Yeah it's a totally different experience of listening to songs lol.

  • A - I guess I differ in the sense that I listen to the crap out of the song lol and not only listen but to find other versions or performances and meanings behind the lyrics etc etc

B - from my favs I might give an album a >1 listen but since I know generally what I like the second listen usually doesn't differ from the first...but for my non favs I guess once is enough for me

C - how often to do you relisten to a group's entire discography? like let's say NCT I've given their entire discography (save the latest one which I will get to) but they including all the subunits have a shit tonne of music lol

it's very interesting how different people can like the same hobby (in this case kpop or even music generally) but have vastly different ways to enjoy that hobby

  • Lol yeah admittedly, I tend to focus more on the listening aspect than the performance aspect. Like I listen to music while doing art, so I think that is partially why going through albums is appealing.

Every once in a blue moon. Admittedly, for shorter discs, I'll do it more frequently (ghost9 and p1harmony don't have a huge discography yet, but they have enough music to really help me keep me busy a couple hours or so, so like, they are easy to listen to). Longer discs like SHINee or NCT, not as much. For them it's more often I feel a pull to a certain song or era and then I'm like, "okay this album". I do try to listen to everything occasionally, but it doesn't happen frequently... that's a lot of music and might take more than 1 session to really cover ^^

Lol yeah. Different ways of processing and viewing. It is cool!

ok ok makes sense...sometimes I will say that a group's performance will push a song over the line from merely the music and that's why I think kpop differs from western stuff (amongst others) that the performance or visual or dance aspect of the song matters as well...music and art a great combination

    makes sense makes sense...
