There's a key change in After LIKE and it's blowing my mind rn

  • Can't believe I missed this all these times

The verse, pre chorus and chorus have more or less the exact same chord progression in C major (ii - V - I - IV)

    - ie. Dm - G - C - F

    - nothing too crazy here

But the post-chorus/sample is in F major, but they keep the same initial chords initially, except for the G major switching to G minor

    - ie. Dm - Gm - C - F (vi - ii - V - I)

    - it's a little ambiguous about being a key change here because the root notes are the same

    - in the second half of the post chorus we get the first hit of a Bb major chord which hits so hard because it pulls the listener DEFINITIVELY into F major ---> (Bb - Gm - A - A7)

-- They also follow the chord progression of I Will Survive

And then back to the first set of chords (in C again) for the verse

Mind = blown, no wonder the post-chorus hits so hard with nostalgia, it's like a little flashback in and out of the past
