Groundbreaking stuff, talking about love and obsession. Never done before ever by Kpop. Hoo Boy. And ancient western mythology... completely fresh and new... of about 2 months since INVU came out with the same theme.
Again, it's all meaningless. Their not saying anything, it's just using an analogy to talk about the humdrum stuff all those songs sing about, love and romance.
Tomboy dropped barely weeks into the election of an anti-feminist president. Obviously not planned those direct circumstances, but it's a powerful song in a country that doesn't take too kindly to that message, and no wonder it resonated so wildly. Love Dive is a good song, it's catchy and it's fun, but don't make me laugh about saying the lyrics are anything special.
You really fail to see how you try to downplay Love Dive with reasons that could apply exactly for Tomboy. You think "I don't need a man, I can do better" type of thing is anything new when girlcrush exist and we can find even better examples like 2ne1's I Am the Best?
Also, I only said it was ironic that you first said that Love Dive was just "singing about oppa unlike Tomboy", but LD is about the EXTREME of self love, it's about the negative side of loving yourself too much.
To refresh your memory, or maybe you don't even know much about greek mythology, the myth of Narcissus isn't about love, it's about self absorption. Narcissus was a guy so infantuated with his own image that when he saw his own reflection in a lake he dived in to reach the reflection but drowned and died there. Hence "perfect sacrifice" in Love Dive lyrics.
Tomboy isn't a bad song either, but let's not pretend it's anything new in kpop when lyrics like that have been floating around since forever.
