No one is downplaying streaming as one metric in understanding a group's popularity or success - but it's not the only one.
The real question is if SM groups are as irrelevant and weird as everyone claims they are, why are people so obsessed with their streaming numbers? There are other popular groups with comparable or lower numbers but they don't have 20 threads a day about it.

Because their faves are weak at streaming, apparently they listen their faves songs on CDs.

Why SM antis and company stans of the other Big 4 companies always pretend SM groups have bad streaming numbers when multiple SM groups are in the top ranks of streaming groups?
Why do they keep ignoring the SM groups that do well in Spotify? Or ignoring all the other Big 4 groups - like for example YG groups that aren't BP - that have weak(er) Spotify numbers especially compared with BTS and BP?
If your standard is BTS and BP numbers then yes, all other groups suck at streaming.

Because streaming is for jobless kids who have no money.
SM groups/idols and their fans are upper class rich kids and working adults. We don't have the time to waste on streaming when we are making bank elsewhere or spending our time having fun.
But hey, give yourself a pat on the back for contributing 3 cents per stream to your faves.

Aespa have, as 1 of very few gg, over 250M streams for 2022 with the few songs they have.
Red Velvet are the 3rd gg in overall streams and Spotify.
EXO have about 9M followers in Spotify.
They do alright.
OP should educate herself: the only real downplaying that's constantly going on is by antis and jealous stans of other groups that are nonstop downplaying the digitals of some SM groups.

lol, Aespa having 250m after releasing an album in october is very bad. Itzy released in september and only had 2 new tracks until july and pretty sure they outstreamed them too, just counting 2021 releases.
RV is 3rd while being very very behind BP and Twice, like these 2 have over 4 billion streams, RV has like 1 billion less despite being the longer in spotify. Exo has 9m followers yet they don't pass of the 4m mls and a lot of their title tracks aren't in the 100m range. NCT has like 1 song over 100m or something and the only way they reach the top 5 of streaming is combining 4 discographies. SM stans I don't know who lie you all but your groups aren't doing good or even decently in spotify, like out of the big 3, sm is the least with 100m songs, 200m songs and has only one over 300m, and we divided by groups its worst.

nct currently have 4 songs at 100 million streams and two other songs at 98 million

Feels like this was appropriate since you seem one of those people that thrive on hatred and hating things, like other k-pop groups and fandoms, to feel good about themselves irl and their ults
