I know there are such software for thesis and doctoral papers. But is there one for music?

Even that is possible only if the music has been digitised. Otherwise they can only rely on their own memories -which can get unreliable.

Wonder what is the practice in any music industry for such issues?

It will take some more years to achieve both..
