how can we start 5th gen when 4th gen groups can't even surpass 3rd gen groups yet?
Not 5th gen problem, anticipate ygngg being the leaders of 5th gen

This gen thing is as confusing as the multiple ways they calculate ages in SK.

Usually it's 6-7 years, no?
2018 I would say was the start
2003-2010 is 2nd
and it makes sense since 2012 was when exo debuted + wanna one(2017) was always in top 3 groups in korea with bts and exo
2011-2018 3rd and so on
But yeah, it won't feel like 5th since bts>>>>>>> bp>>>>>>>>>>>>twice are still going strong and the only ones who have ww hype

fine, considering the only place 4th gen is going to end is in your head. You should learn how time works.
4th gen started around 2018/2019/2020 depending on who you ask. That means at most 4th gen would only be about 3 years long and at the least only barely a year. The previous generations were between 7 and 10 years long. Usually when one generation passes into another, kids who were like teens in middle or high school are heading off the college and aging out of the genre along with their idols. For example, most of 3rd gen was born in the 1990s while most of 4th gen are now 2000s.
Generations is also about more than length time. It's about the changing of the market. Nothing significant has happened in the market that would denote a new generation has begun like for 4th gen it was the pandemic and the huge boost in album sales.
