You're wrong. The grown ups running after a ball are literally 2 teams competing vs each other. The only competition in kpop is the one between these delusional fans. I get that kpop fans want to feel better about themselves by supporting the best or biggest group, but we all know music isn't about that.

Its the thing atm kpop
Everyone is crazy competitive, goes in all areas of kpop not just kpop fans.
Who else is competitive besides kpop fans? If you mean the companies that push this competition and the who is better then who narrative. But the poor idols that are caught in the crossfire don't look at it that way.

Kpop has always been that way, just like sports fans.

kpop fans live vicariously through their favs

it's the formula for kpop, its not new, maybe youre new but it has been this way for as long as i can remember.
kpop is a sport, the normal average fans enjoy the music. some really 'dedicated' fans treat kpop as their identity. so if kpop is losing, theyre losing, if kpop winning, they are winning. they let it defined who they are. to them, it's either winning or nothing, there's no music.
the teenagers or young adults that think of this will one day grow up -hopefully-, to just be replaced by fresh meat who thinks the same. and you repeat it until whatever generation kpop goes on for.

It’s not a new thing
