The problem with these conversations is that they are not nuanced enough or initiated by a well educated person to not be rooted in Islamophobia. A lot of these criticisms are orientalist in nature and are highly western centric. America has a history of getting into international disputes and exploiting people of various countries whose political stability they damaged yet the criticism of kpop performing in US is not highlighted. How they changed their foreign policy post 9/11 and where this mindset is really rooted in. What's more ironic is folks having these criticisms are from westerners themselves. This is why I never take western criticism of Islamic countries seriously. Not unless it's coming from someone who is well read. These are puny attempts at causing controversy in entertainment forums for 2 minutes of fame. These are not well meaning conversations. It's coming from a place of trolling. It's disingenuous and no one will convince me you really care about these issues.
