For few days ago I was thinking: "I would like to see an autistic female character in a kdrama" and....

  • It was a bit of a random thought I had. (didn't post it in that one random thoughts thread though)

When I think of autistic characters in kdramas, I can only think of the main character in Good Doctor, the main character's brother in Shining Inheritage and the main character's brother in It's Okay Not To Be Okay. I couldn't think of any single female character.

The reason why I had this thought is because often when we see autistic characters in media, they are most often male.

    and then I see this:

I clicked on this trailer because the title made em think of Ace Attorney. (and I laughed when they said "Objection" in this trailer.)

While I was watching the trailer, i was thinking "Oh, she is probably supposed to be autistic or something else."

I mean, I see fidgetting, avoiding eye contact and other stuff that I usually associate with autism.

Then I checked the synopsis, and I was freaking right about it.

"Brilliant attorney Woo Young-woo tackles challenges in the courtroom and beyond as a newbie at a top law firm and a woman on the autism spectrum."

Now I think about it, I wonder if this is going to feel like a female lawyer version of Good Doctor.

I can't tell whether this is a good representation of it or not.

Well... if I had Netflix, I would watch it.

Suddenly I remember reading that there is a Korean movie called Innocent Witness that has an autistic female character. (but it is a movie, not a kdrama)

Well... I just showed my autistic side, by making this thread.

Yup, I'm an autistic female. (got diagnosed as a teen)

I sometimes feel nervous when talking about autism because I feel like I might say something wrong or something.

  • its not kdrama, but have u watched Temple Grandin? it's based on true story and about autistic female. I have really loved this movie. I usually read reviews and people's opinion before watching any film where they have autistic people, cause most of them seem to portray them in the wrong way or too stereotypical. Also I think it is better to hire real autistic people in those roles.

I haven't watched the movie, but I have kind of heard of her.

I do agree with the part that it is better to hire real autistic actors.

But well... I don't think I have heard about any Korean actor, who is autistic.
