Same reason why Mozart is so popular, yet most of us don't like his music or understand why it was so groundbreaking.
Different people like different music because they were conditioned a certain way. They might not be able to explain why they like it and they probably can't convince others to start liking it, but it connects with them because that's the sound they familiarized themselves with.
If you asked yourself why you like the music you like, you probably won't be able to explain it. You just like what you like. You're the product of your environment and time.
