Did BTS peak?

  • So English singles will always do better?

Yes. Because they are in English and thus more accessible to casuals and also because they are singles. Their Korean title tracks have always had to compete with other songs on the corresponding album. For the English singles all the fandom had to focus on was one single song plus one mv. All the sales and streams are directed at that one song.

Ytc even had it worse than previous album releases because it had to compete with more than 30 songs, a whole CD of which could not be streamed anywhere officially, 2 other new songs and an mv. It makes sense that the fandom was spread out everywhere. It's just not physically impossible to have matched the numbers of the English singles without compromising a lot of other stuff.

  • They peaked three years ago with BWL. The Third Age is passing into history, Twice peaked in 2018, BP in 2020, and BTS in 2019. Now, all that's left is to scrabble and claw and fight for a dusty old crown that is no longer relevant, while the world around them has already moved on to the Fourth Age.

Interesting that bts, twice and bp are all more popular than the ‘fourth’ age groups you speak of :pepe-narrow-eyes:
