WACK and JMS announce TV audition show "BRAND-NEW BAND STORY"

    auditions are open for all genders and ages, they are closing on June 19th


    the show is going to air in August on the TV channels of SPACE SHOWER TV and GYAO! the goal is to find the next generation of monster rookies of the rock scene


    the winners are going to debut in late 2022, as prize they are going to get:

    • A contract with the label "Columbia records" (a subsidiary of Sony)
    • Debut live concert along the groups "BiSH" and "MY FIRST STORY"
    • A spot in the "VIVA LA ROCK 2023" line up

    this is WACK's 2nd audition TV show, back in 2019 and in collaboration with TBS they released "MONSTER IDOL", the winners of the show became the idol group "MAMESHiBA NO TAiGUN"

    is not bad news, i like J-rock and their last TV audition group MAMESHiBA turned well


    but it was tone deaf from Watanabe to schedule this the day right after the disbanding announcement


    people were pissed during the livestream, both in youtube and twitter, is hard not to be disappointed when everyone was expecting it to be about EMPiRE

    i guess it's not bad news though i do think too much of these acts being formed on tv is goIng to lead to a lack of originality and creativity in the Japanese music market eventually.

    that's a good take, the general public doesn't like experimental concepts, if is up to them to put together every new group we are going to end with very similar acts


    some girl singing about pineapples under an overpass in Yokohama could totally be a viable musical act with a strong following, that what's cool about the Japanese music industry


    the other thing is that idol companies don't have a good track record making bands


    THE COINLOCKERS were a band put together by Yasushi Akimoto, he tried the same system he uses for AKB48 and despite having the backing of both the biggest music producer in the industry and his mega company it didn't work

  • they tried to do the coinlockers similar to how they do the 48 groups, which imo is a dumb way to approach putting together a band
