Is red velvet still more popular than IVE Aespa and Itzy?

  • Instead calling them more popular, i think they are more to being respectful now, thank to their musical style that wow everyone. And ofcourse vocal too.

  • No, probably not. I would expect at least Aespa and IVE to outsell RV within the next year and Aespa get better spotify and youtube numbers as do Itzy.

IVE really eat them up on spotify and Apple. I expect Itzy to pull bigger touring numbers than RV too and Aespa and IVE still chart way better in Korea too.

  • They are more famous, but maybe not more popular now

    Popular =/= famous

  • Aespa was the #2 most popular girl group in SK after BP, I'm guessing that's still the case.

Red Velvet were the #5 gg after TWICE and Brave Girls, ITZY didn't rank at all in the Top 20 most popular groups/artists of 2021 in SK.

I think in SK popularity goes like this based on rankings and results of the past year:

    BP

    Aespa

Oh My Girl / Red Velvet / GIdle

    IVE

    Brave Girls

    TWICE

    ITZY

Red Velvet had 8.2M Monthly Listeners which so far only TWICE and BP had higher, and they're still the #3 most streamed k-pop girl group in Spotify.

On top of that, their album sales doubled to tripled with their last comeback outselling all 4th gen groups, without any artificial boosts like cheap half-price albums and excessive fanmeet lotteries.

All the 'I expect' don't mean much until actual touring and sales results happen.

It's a given that 4th gen will gradually replace and surpass 3rd gen groups - 4th gen groups are already charting better than even TWICE and outpacing TWICE in popularity who were the #1 gg for several years in 3rd gen era.

But so far Red Velvet have been holding up fine amidst 4th gen groups and doing better than almost all other 3rd gen groups, in sales and charts.
