around 2018, his recognition with gp skyrocked & it hasn't changed since then
i think people are often surprised because, untill this year, he had literally zero solo project (not counting songs on soundcloud): no solo songs, no solo varieties, no solo photoshoots,...
i think if you ask to name a bts member to koreans, they will most probably say jimin (and a lot of jks probably too). korean gp know jimin, i would almost say he's the face of bts in korean.

He's always #1 in BR but I don't see jennie /wonyoung like impact. I watch a lot of Korean variety shows and they name drop 2 of their other members alot, all the time. That's why I often get confused if he's really THAT popular.

it's because compared to these two, Jimin has ZERO individuality. i mean that, bts has always been OT7 & jimin in particular hasn't done anything solo, which imo, makes his continu popularity even more impressive.
for example; jennie has had a very succesful and promoted solo release in 2018, has done many varieties when her popularity was rising (gp got to see her a lot), has a lot of solo cfs which attracts a lot of attention,.. etc
i think the comment below explains it very well. not only has jimin been topping brand ranking for almost 3 years straight, he even topped Gallup surveys (which are often seen as more trustworthy than brand ranking). i understand why you might be surprised due to his lack of solo activities, but jimin is truly the definition of an it boy.

Is Kang Daniel really THAT popular in SK? Afaik, he has no gp hit in SK. Mostly huge dls and streams for the first week then tank afterwards. Which means it's mainly fandom driven.

Kang Daniel used to be the it boy hut lost a lot of fans after his scandal. If he had remained single he'd be so much more popular rn.
