Next Level vs Tomboy

  • So I keep reading how Next Level is "bigger" than Tomboy so I got curious about the actual numbers. People here love to just dump their opinions while throwing out bogus numbers and hope no one notices I guess. Here are some figures for you. Melon UL's appear to be a good metric to see how popular the song is with the general public (as long as it reaches the top20 or so). Combine that with Gaon digitals and we should have a clear picture for where the songs stand. These figures were pulled from that Melon data acct on Twittr and the Gaon website.

Note that there are 4 dates missing for Next Level. (Not sure why). I skipped one and noted the other 3 missing dates below.

Line 1 is the daily Melon UL for 3/24/22. 2nd column shows Next Level's UL for the corresponding day from hitting the top 10. Tomboy hit the top 10 on the 2nd day while Next Level took about a week.

After 70+ days of Melon Top 10 charting, I can't see where one could positively conclude Next Level is a bigger song. Tomboy had higher peaks while also having higher UL's after 70+ days. Agree/Disagree???

Next month should provide a clearer picture and so forth. My point is no one should claim Next Level is a bigger song based on what we can see so far.

    Approved the thread.
  • Wow...you legit did some deep diving lmao.

    Interesting hobby you have there.

Next Level is a bop is all I know.

Tomboy is definitely doing numbers, but it's not that great of a song for me personally, which is all I care about.

  • It’s just mys with their ego

I get that aespa gets a lot of hate here in anon but mys are always acting superior to other ggs like idle and Ive these days

  • TomBoy have better Gaon digital number too.

However, we still need to see their longevity whether can can keep up with Next Level or not.

  • LMAO sorry if i find this so funny. You don't determine a song success just by ULS and I'm pretty sure people know NL is bigger than Tomboy not because of numbers but its IMPACT overall. Also it's been over a year and NL is still charting high, we have to wait a year to see Tomboy's performance.

Like I said, another month will show a clearer picture, and so forth. My point is, based on what's happened so far, you can't claim Next Level is definitively bigger. Someone else also threw out some bogus 800K UL in another thread so I had to check for myself.

  • Line 1 is the daily Melon UL for 3/24/22

    Should that read 5/24/22?

It makes no sense otherwise. I can see line 71 is 3/16, so why is line 1 3/24 ?

  • I still think NL is bigger, we saw the military, kids, grandmas doing that dance, it was everywhere, Tomboy was a hit but I dont consider it on the same level as NL.

  • Next Level did 27 weeks in the top 10 of Melon, one of the greatest charting runs ever. Literally behind only Dynamite and a rando shampoo song.

Tomboy has the better peaks and its demonstrating remarkable staying power, #2 still having outlasted Love Dive and Still Life and behind only Psy, but it's still a long road to hoe to get to 27 weeks in the top 10.

  • kwangya and lee soo man gon come for yo ass, cube better get that lube ready

  • Nl is obviously bigger lmao the song got used for presidental election and even kindergarten kids dance to it. Even knetz said nl is bigger lmao and they actually live there and know the impact of the song/

  • nl is bigger because sm stans said so

  • Funny to see mys using vague term as IMPACT to call next level a bigger song because they know when it comes to actual numbers and objectively measurable facts tomboy is destroying next level everywhere

  • I don't think judging based on a day to day is correct

Since Next Level was a "grower" in a way and Tomboy had been "instant hit" in a way

Now who is bigger based on peak, its Tomboy, based on virality its NL, based on longetivity ( idk how to write this word) right now they really show the same track

Tbh its no use comparing.. its like comparing Cheer Up and DDDD and trying to say whos the bigger one when both of them did so well and are in the same tier

Both of Tomboy and Next Level are big hits and are in same tier of S level songs in 4th gen discography

Yes, Tomboy impact is definitely felt in Korea. It's being played virtually everywhere.

I hear you. I thought about using the Unique kids and grandmas dancing chart but ultimately decided against it. I felt mass fandom dancing and proliferation of Iphone cameras made this chart easily manipulatable.
