I. Introduction
NCT 127 American School 101 is a YouTube variety series that follows the members of the boy group NCT 127, a NCT sub-unit, as they learn about American culture in a school setting, taught by the group's American member, Johnny.
II. Overview
NCT 127 embarked on their first concert tour, Neo City: The Origin in 2019, spanning Asia, Europe, the U.S. and Canada. To support the tour, NCT's YouTube channels posted regular content, including limited time shows and special episodes of ongoing shows. Members continued promoting heavily in the United States after the tour during the fall of 2019, including appearances on popular TV shows. NCT 127 American School 101 introduces the members to American culture and trends, as part of the promotions to support the English version of "Highway to Heaven."
All of the members - Taeil, Taeyong, Yuta, Doyoung, Jaehyun, Jungwoo, Mark and Haechan - learn in a fake school setting under the instruction of fellow member Johnny, who is American. The series is primarily in English, or subtitled in English.
This is the second show where NCT 127 members are learning a language - they previously learned Japanese in NCT 127 Teach Me Japan. Members of the group will go on to learn Indonesian and Mandarin during NCT Resonance promotions in September-October 2020, in Halo! Indonesian School and NCT Chinese Special Tips respectively. Although this is the shortest of the language-related shows, many of the memes here remain popular in NCT content and are referenced by members and fans.
This ran from September 3 to September 17, 2019 on the NCT 127 YouTube channel.
