As a group Twice is bigger and more known, even excluding Japan. I'd say NewJeans is trendier, hence they charted better rn.

from what i search, they are releasing another album in june to which that one has the famous japan artist collab.
if that album sells 1M+
im a say that's pretty damn good no? if they released two albums in that short period of time it makes sense that some would choose one or the other. has their been a Stragety releasing two single albums in such a short time frame?
Not a single album, but for a full studio album, BTS did it back then in 2018. They released a Japanese album in April and then their Korean album in May. Iirc other group such as Twice and Seventeen did the same as well for their Korean and Japanese album in the past. So it's actually pretty common.
Also, the thing is, for Kpop group, their Korean album usually sold way better than their Japanese album. Thats why I don't really have a high expectation for NewJeans upcoming album sales.
