ol abe is not just a hero. this man did horrible shit too, like giving white people reparations for slavery... literally he gave southern slave owners millions of dollars for "property loss."

but yeah slavery was a terrible institution that sadly continued in different forms after 1865. the 13th amendment even says that slavery is legal if it's a punishment for a crime... just as an example: in the past few years as california's wildfires have been getting worse, incarcerated individuals were being paid something like 2 dollars a day to risk their lives fighting the fires. anyways this is why criminal justice and criminal reform is important.
