'Snowdrop' is currently the third most controversial drama in Korea.
On the 26th, Rep. Yang Jeong-suk of the National Assembly's "Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee" disclosed the status of broadcasting complaints under deliberation received from the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KCSC).
It was revealed that 'Seolganghwa (Snowdrop)' received 871 broadcast review complaints for it's "history distortion" scandal with 781 complaints received within 3 days of airing on the 18th.
The most controversial drama this year was 'Joseon Exorcist' accounting for 46% of total cases filed. The drama was taken off air in March after two episodes also due to "history distortion" controversy.
Rankings by "program" as of December 24th were as follows:
- SBS 'Joseon Exorcist' - 5,174 cases
- YTN 'Evening News' - 1,212
- JTBC 'Seolganghwa' - 868
- SBS 'Penthouse' seasons 2&3 - 559
- KBS 'News 9' - 341
- tVN 'Mr Queen' - 249 (also over "history distortion")
Rankings by "broadcasting company" were as follows:
- SBS - 6,533 cases
- YTN - 1,330
- JTBC - 1,001
- MBC - 901
- KBS - 780
- TV Chosun - 266
- Channel A - 170
- MBN - 82
- Yonhap - 26
Also, since 'Snowdrop' began airing recently on the 18th, officials expect more complaints to be filed.
Rep. Yang Jeong-sook stated, "broadcasting companies need to ensure the imagination and freedom of producers are maintained however not through providing "historically distorted" information to the viewers. 'Seolganghwa' may affect how the world views of our country since it airs through Disney+ therefore a special committee should be formed to allow prompt deliberation."
- [+590, -33] This is why we need to stop accepting Chinese investments. Viewers have already been quite clear we hate this so what's the point of our country still accepting money from China? They must take the viewers opinions as a joke..
- [+228, -13] 'Seolganghwa' is even putting out outright false claims. For example, at an open house party at Hosoo women's university dorm, they were told first prize winner would receive a computer, which is just plain ridiculous. In Korea, in 1986, the electronic typewriter had just come out and was getting popular. Although the first Macintosh PC was developed and distributed in the US in 1984, you couldn't find it in Korea. I seriously broke out in laughter seeing them hand out computers at a dorm event. Ugh ~ what a lazy writer.
- [+112, -28] So when is it going to get cancelled exactly? Rather than trusting in Disney+ we should be figuring out how to take it off air right now..
- [+79, -7] Anyone that took in CCP investments to air this propaganda should to be caught and hanged at Gwanghamun..
- [+36, -11] It's no secret at all... 'Snowdrop' is clearly a North Korean spy beautification drama ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
- [+26, -4] Actors need to be careful and put in some thought too before accepting a project. Avoid dramas that take in Chinese money so that our history won't get distorted.
- [+9, -1] Take this drama off air already! It's not enjoyable to watch at all and the female lead's acting is just...
