Why do kpop fans hate South Korea?

  • Compared to fans of say Japanese culture, kpop fans have an intense dislike for South Korea as they view it and its culture of problematic? Why do you think the kpop soft culture project has failed in this way?

  • this is worded in a very difficult way omg i feel like answering an essay question

i don’t think kpop fans hate korean culture as a whole just some aspects

= the shotgun marriage thing , i saw many ppl pissed off by how knetz were criticizing having a baby before marriage

also aegyo but to be fair acting like a baby and men finding it attractive IS very weird … like they have a point

i don’t think anyone hates hanboks and korean food and korean national holidays

  • eh it's a mix. Sure you'll see fans call out problematic stuff, but then you'll see a lot of people vehemently defend it. (though honestly, the defenders are more interested in protecting their favs than the culture itslef).

In regards to Japanese culture, there is critique and discord around that as well. But I feel like "fans" of Japanese culture are more into anime and games as opposed to idols so I think there is a bit more disconnect in that. Like, what is in anime and games is well... not real and not a proper reflection of what Japanese people are like... I think these knowledge gaps means the "fans" of Japanese culture might not know as much about what Japanese culture and real Japan is like... or perhaps don't take an interest in it since they are interested in the fantasy, fictional worlds. Meanwhile for kpop, I mean, yes the idols do present a fantasy in a sense, but they are real people so the disconnect isn't as strong.

But Japanese culture obviously affects how games and anime are written, so you can see critique on it. Specifically, the sexualization of female characters for example. But I noticed in these communities, criticism of this kind tends to get shut down or is heavily ridiculed so like, I just think the internet communities for kpop and anime have different perceptions in some ways.
