About gatekeeping

Gatekeeping is, according to Urban Dictionary, “when someone takes it upon themselves to decide who does or does not have access or rights to a community or identity.” It's used to make the gatekeeper feel superior to others on the outside or more deserving of an identity.

Do you guys gatekeep? Have you ever wanted to gatekeep something, and if yes what was it?

I need to ask because after OP's live action cast news, I feel like I want to gatekeep One Piece even though I don't really care about it (stopped after Enel's arc lol) so it doesnt even make sense.

Gatekeeping is sooooo stupid so I hate the fact that I feel the urge of doing it even if I don't really care deeply about the thing I want to gatekeep.

I'm working on it (i have a few tabs of articles and reddit posts to read) so please share your stories cause im interested

I believe gatekeeping is a good thing it's essential to maintain the essence of a community or hobby similar to an immune system. I think most fandoms would have better views and be better spaces if they gatekept. Gatekeepers are similar to white blood cells in terms of keeping the fandom healthy. I have gatekept online before for the Fire emblem fandom mainly because there seems to be some people entering the fandom only to complain about how the games are problematic when if anything that means the core essence of the games aren't for them and they should leave us alone.

Gatekeeping is lame and stupid.

Oh I kinda get what you mean. Like how Amazon should be gatekept so it won't be ruined by greed?

Honestly, gatekeeping is useful sometimes.

I will gatekeep my faves from kpop stans who claim to be fans only to bash them for approval of their mutuals without getting dragged by actual fans, and throw them under the bus. I don't want these weird people in my fandom spaces.
