The greatest anime of modern times (arguably ever), Frieren, aired its first episode of its 2nd season today. If anyone else is a fan, let’s chat about it!

  • Nice finale that was pretty much a set up for next season that seems like will be massive. I do like the message the season had that anybody can be considered an unsung hero. I think the story about the dwarf building a bridge for 200 years was a great way to sum up one of the overlying themes of the season.

I'm always amazed how great the fight choreography for this show is because it has no business to be this good tbh. I love watch Fern in battles because there's always something new we learn about how strong she is a sorcerer. I think she's my favourite character in the show

S3 will be oct 2027. That's a pretty quick turn around and I was expecting a longer wait. I assume next season is going to have a lot of action. I wonder if they're going to go for another short season. I don't mind this kind of pacing if it means we avoid have a film. Even though I loved Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man film. I felt the film just makes everything feel longer since it gets a staggered release

  • I just finished watching the final episode, the idea that the northern plateau has grown a lot safer thanks to party of heroes and Frieren’s realisation of it looking out across the mineral vein where she stood before with Himmel was nice.

Agree about the fight scenes and the magic.

I really like how it is so logical and well-thought-out. It allows for the growth of Fern’s abilities to feel very cool. Fern uses basic magic only, shields and attacks (Zoltraak) so it’s been a really satisfying reveal that as she grows as a mage, it’s no longer just her speed that sets her apart but now also her long distance precision. Something that she learned in the fight in the forest against the 2 demons, and has now honed in that fight on the tundra against the giant wolf. Very cool.

It makes me think of the first season where she was trying to hit the rock on the other side of the canyon. Now she is able to fly beyond mana detection range and basically nuke things from orbit. Heiter would be proud of his adopted daughter 🥲
