Well... a kinda random thread.
The reasons why I know about these artists and songs is because they have been referenced in JoJo.
In this thread, I'm only mentioning Western artists. (even though I discovered a Japanese opera singer because of the anime)
Okay, some of the artists are maybe going to make some of you go "Have you been living under a rock?"
Well... perhaps because I wasn't born in the 80s or perhaps these artists are not that famous in my country. (like my parents have not heard of Oingo Boingo either)
R.E.O Speedwagon
Well... the first is R.E.O Speedwagon. (because Speedwagon is one of my favorite characters)
And I have been listening to them a lot lately.
I like "Keep on Loving You" and "Can't Fight This Feeling"
And I really like "Don't Let Him Go".
Yes
The first season of the anime has Yes' "Roundabout" as ending theme.
And the beginning of their song "Owner of A Lonely Heart" is sampled in the song "WELCOME TO THE WORLD" from the Battle Tendency soundtrack.
And well... I like both of these songs.
Steely Dan
and I also discovered the album "Aja" and the song by the same name, because of the Aja stone.
And I kinda like that song.
Oingo Boingo
I had not heard of them before, even though I thought the name Danny Elfman sounded familiar.
And well... I like the song "We Close Our Eyes"
Dire Straits...
Well... I didn't know who they were, but then I listened to "Sultans of Swing" and realized that I have heard that song before.
Jeff Beck
and his album "Wired" because of the character Wired Beck.
Michel Polnareff
Thinking about when I was listening to the radio and heard the host mentioning that name, and was thinking "Oh, makes me think of Polnareff from JoJo" and then I found out that he was actually named after him.
Lisa Lisa
Because of the character called Lisa Lisa.
And I like some of the songs by Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam.
