Here’s my current vocab list. If you’re learning Korean, can you make sentences with my vocab list? I’ll give double points if you combine 3+ words from the list in a single sentence.

Vocab List 1

결정 - decision

결정하다 - to decide

계획 - plan

과거 - in the past

교통 - traffic

국제 - international

규칙 - rule

나빠지다 - to get worse (to spoil)

넘어지다 - to fall down

동전 - coin

따로 - separately

맞은편 - on the opposite side

수돗물 - tap water

싱겁다 - to be bland

약간 - slightly

우표 - postage stamp

인구 - population

일기예보 - the weather forecast

장점 - advantage / 단점 - disadvantage / 장단점 - pros & cons

저희 - we (formal)

책장 - bookshelf

해외여행 - overseas holiday

형제 - sibling

흐리다 - to be cloudy/overcast

하기로 했다 - decided to (do something)

It’s a bit of a random list I know, these are just words I am learning to fill gaps in my knowledge. Can you make sentences using these?

For example:

야, 뭐 마실지 결정 못 하면 그냥 수돗물 마셔라

Ya! If you can’t decide what to drink, just have tap water.

내일 일기예보 봤니? 비 계속 온대 내 계획 완전 망했다 어떡해 진짜…

Did you see tomorrow’s forecast, it’s gonna keep raining, my plans are totally ruined, what am I to do?

Each of these manages to use 2 words from my list. I’ll try to write some with 3 or more tomorrow, and if you’re a learner, I challenge you to give it a go too.

how long have you been learning? you have a pretty natural korean, and some of those vocab words are quite advanced for a beginner

I’ve been learning Korean for 10-11 years now, but not through formal study (which is why the vocab list is a random mix of very basic to intermediate). I want to take TOPIK exams next year and will aim for level 4. But I need to study more lol, so I am hoping to use this thread for motivation.

I really liked your sentence. Grammar like “줄 알았으면‘ and “을 텐데“ is stuff I understand when I hear it, but it doesn’t come naturally to me to use yet.

Here’s another set of sentences formed into a paragraph and I tried to fit in the ~ㄹ 텐데요 grammar. I only hit 3 words on my vocab list (인구, 교통, 단점), but I was riffing.

It’s a little story about being frustrated about car ownership in Seoul, (pure fiction, I don’t live in Seoul). It’s using polite grammar, as if a discussion in the Office breakout room.

요즘에 서울에 사람이랑 자동차가 너무 많아요

Nowadays there are too many people and cars in Seoul.

서울의 인구가 더 커질수록 교통이 더 심해져요

As Seoul’s population grows, the traffic situation becomes worse.

이제 퇴근 시간에 운전하는 걸 포기해야 해요

Now, at rush hour, you have to give up driving.

그래서 저는 대신 지하철 타요

So I started riding the subway instead.

이게 서울에서 살기의 제일 큰 단점 이에요

This is the biggest disadvantage of living in Seoul.

제가 주말에 캠핑으로 자주 가니까 자동차 꼭 필요할 텐데요

As I often go camping on weekends, a car is a real must!

근데, 회사 갈때 지하철 타야 하니까 제가 왜 비싼 돈을 주고 자동차 샀는지 모르겠어요…

But as I have to ride the subway to work, I don’t know why I spent so much money on my car…
