Personally, I'd say we are. It's just that 4th Gen has overlapped quite a bit because of COVID.

On a related subject, I feel 4th Gen started in 2020. You could say COVID began that era, as it created an immediate break, of sorts.

The issue with 5th Gen is that we're going to be oversaturated with new groups, with Hybe taking the biscuit.

They'll then have 1, 2, 3, 4... 6 GROUPS UNDER ITS BELT NEXT YEAR!! (8, if BELIFT and Ador create theirs by 2027 (Personally, I don't think Ador has plans for one, nor do I think they actually picked trainees from those auditions).

I agree that covid messed things up and 2022 felt more like a new generation than 2018-2021 did. I'm sure many feel the same way that I do but there's a difference between groups created during covid and post-covid. For example, NewJeans felt like a new era to me due to it lining up with everything opening up again.

Honestly, with kpop going global, generations should be put to sleep. I think it made more sense when kpop was more contained. There's just way too much overlap with groups that are supposed to be in 4th and 5th gen. How can we say we're in a new generation when only 1 song charted in the top 5 out of the hundreds of songs that were released between 2023 to the present.

I feel generation is just a marketing term for newer groups not to get overshadowed by popular groups. If we're dubbing something a new generation then they should have bigger impact on the industry imo. At the moment, I'm unsure if we can say any groups made from 2023 to the present are in the top 7. I just think it's going to be hard for 4th gen groups to fade away because there's always the international market to keep groups alive. I love the group, but look at Itzy. They may not be charting, but they're able to have multiple releases because they have an international market to keep them afloat for years. That also create an issue of harder for 5th gen groups to increase fanbase when people are still holding onto older groups.

I used to care more about the gens but I have given up a little lol.

I think there's a whole new generation of artists shaped by NewJeans debut (which really was a cultural reset in Korea).

If that's 5th or 4.5, I'll let everyone else decide

I'm surprised you haven't said they are the biggest group of each Gen, with them influencing the K-pop scene since they were in diapers.
