The funny thing is ifans show more hostility to self-writing idols

  • Most comments are like “just because you write your own songs doesn’t mean they are good lol”. They get so passive aggressive when Koreans call those idols geniuses, even though it’s just a figure of speech. Or they claim self-writing idols is just a gimmick and the only thing the idol does is a write their name on the credits.

Why the hostility? Because it breaks the illusion of living through their biases.

If their idols don’t self-write it reflects back on fans, and they have to think what they cannot do in their own lives. They say the scariest thing you can show to a person stuck inside their own self-made illusion is a mirror.

I do not think it matters as long as the writer behind the song is not an R Kelly grade creep, I could care less. I do love seeing artists write their own songs though when they decide to as it gives us an insight into their thoughts and artistry

  • Both can be true.

A lot of the self written/produced songs are trash and so are the appointed songs that their labels give them to sing.

Bad songs are a epidemic right now!

On the flip side, artist who right amazing songs and recieve hate from “kpop stans” are just bitter that they have the creative and artistic ability to make great art, and usually their faves DONT! Being able to write beautiful lyrics and create catchy/infectious choruses is a art and talent within itself and it’s not easy to do.

The distinction is in pointing it out often and trying to make that the focus. When a company hires outside-the-group writers nobody says "these songs are trash because they were made by other people".
