Women will never catch up to men in the tech field?

In my country, while engineering keeps being male dominated, they are more and more female students in pure sciences and medical sciences. However, it seems to be different preference in major fields. While they are more female Medicine graduates each years, less women and more men pursue higher education in surgery or orthopedics fields. It's likely not because of gore and blood as it is about 50:50 male to female in ER field. (ER doctors treat mostly accidentally injured patients.) For pure science, it seems like most female students prefer chemistry/biology.
