    This ends my trilogy of threads looking at Hyperpop/Hypertrap/Underground Pop from East Asian countries (link to the Korean and Japanese threads below).


    I'm on the lookout for more artists (this time from China), so if you have any, please drop them in this thread!

    An artist with very little information in English. I think she's based in Shanghai as that's where her long time producer/collaborater ATM Hanson seems to based.


    Her music has a strong Trap sound. In fact, I am tempted to just call it Trap music (or Trap pop, as she isn't rapping, but the beats are straight-up Trap music). But she does veer into more Hyperpop too, especially on DTLA Rat, which happens to be my fav song of hers:

    In this thread we explore a range of new and upcoming artists in the indie Japanese music scene that blend Hyperpop, Jpop, Hip-hop and other genres. I’ve reformatted this first post to contain my top recs.

    I'm having a lot of fun finding out these artists and their incredible music, so please step in to either educate me or join in the fun!

    She's not really hyper pop, but I will always use a chance to promote Lexiue Liu's music because she's one of my favorite artist. She's a very versatile artist and can make amazing r&b tracks, float on dance tracks, and she's lowkey one of the best pop across the globe


    I find it interesting how she manages to transition into mandarin to english in her tracks. Her newer songs seem to be more in Englsh because I think she wants to reach a more global audience

    FiFi Zhang makes amazing downtempo UK garage inspired pop. I’ve been listening to her for a while since I heard So Beautiful So Lonely in 2023, but now she’s gearing up to her first full length album (releasing in October) and it sounds really promising.     I never got round to replying to you, but I like Lexie Liu, my favs by her are Manta, Magician and Fortuna. Great addition to the thread.

    According to her website she was born and raised in Shanghai but is now based in NYC.


    Yeah, I’m really excited for this album too! I like being able to “pre-save” albums on Spotify, it makes the countdown quite exciting lol!

    Another artist raised in Shanghai, SEBii is a producer and artist and frequently features on the Spotify Hyperpop playlist. He is also the glue for a lot of these scenes, collabing and producing for Korean artists like Effie and The Deep, and Japanese artists like Rinahamu and Manaka.


    After listening to his features, I began checking out his own music and really like it. It’s a scattering of singles and eps, but here are some of my favourites:

    I remember reading quite some time ago there's actually a very big scene in China. I didn't bother checking because didn't really know where to look but I remember reading there's a lot of artist and influenced many across the world. I'm not shocked by that because I feel there's always inspirations from across the globe and it later gets revived. It's kind of like how a lot of 2000s jpop influencd and e shaped many in the pcmusic/hyperpop scene tbh.

    Yeah, finding out about the Chinese scene seems as impossible to me as finding out about a scene on Mars on something. The internet they use is just completely different to the internet we’re on (or so it seems) so I can only learn about artists as I stumble across them on YouTube or Spotify. I would love for someone to give me tons of recs to go through, especially the underground Shanghai scene, because I imagine it is so exiting and cutting edge.

    I'm not sure, if we are counting artist from taiwanese and hong kong, but if we are then, I'm in luck because I got a few recommends :joy: :).


    ZZ - an artist/rapper with a gothic aesthetics, she got a decent amount of songs out alongside a EP '02020' and a few 'single' albums.

    I highly recommend her song - numb fantasy! - NiN Remix VIP (thats one goes super hard).

    BABYMINT - they are not an underground artist since they are a pretty well idol group in the taiwanese music scene, but they have a few songs that are off-the-wacky like Hellokittybalahcurrihellokitty美味しい, 2023 : BBMeme ODYSSEY and BOOOOORING


    BabyJo - I know nothing about her but, I do know that she has a two EPs and a few singles out already, I only listen to one which is 'lovenhate


    LiVE - now, this is a artist but a collaboration project/EP between two people/artist Losty and EMOji蟻眸几/EMOjiismyshawty.

    now, EMOji蟻眸几 doesn't have any song out yet besides this album and features but Losty have a bunch albums out and super long ones as well, which is impressive.
