There's a huge cultural difference between Korea and the west as well. The values the west holds are not the same as Korea. Some sayings and terms from Korea may be misinterpreted due to direct translations. Some things make more sense in Korean than in English.
I'm not Korean but I am SEA and there are a lot of similarities that my culture has with korean culture, so I understand it more than an i-fan/western fan would. Some expressions may sound harsh or derogatory when translated in English but really it's just endearing and normal to use. There's a lot of cases where i-fans misinterpret sayings from any asian language that kpop idols speak (mandarin, korean, thai, etc) because the english translation says it like that, and fans get riled up bc its somehow a bad saying but really it isn't.
