NewJeans: Most Acclaimed Act Across K-Pop and J-Pop in 2024

Despite a comparatively quieter year for new music, NewJeans balanced dual releases in K-pop and J-pop with exceptional critical acclaim. The two songs appear across seven different lists with both standing out among Korean pop acts.

    • How Sweet” was featured on six year-end lists including two all-genre lists: Rolling Stone named it the 35th best song of the year on their all-genre 100 Best Songs of 2024 list; The Fader also ranked it at No. 25 on its 50 Best Songs of 2024 as the highest-ranking K-pop song.
    • Among the K-pop focused lists, the single ranked at No. 8 on Popmatters’ 15 Best K-Pop Songs of 2024, No. 14 on NME’s 25 Best K-Pop Songs of 2024, and No. 16 on Billboard’s 25 Best K-Pop Songs of 2024: Staff Picks list
    • J-pop single “Supernatural” was ranked No. 3 in New York Times pop critic Jon Caramanica’s list of Best Songs of 2024, where he commented, “Why anyone would want to get in the way of the most stylistically impressive K-pop group of the past few years making tremendous, nostalgically precise and modernly sophisticated songs like this one is beyond me.”
    • On South Korea’s prestigious Gallup Poll, “How Sweet” landed as the No. 3 and “Supernatural” was No. 10 among the thousands of voters’ pick for best songs of the year.
