How come South Koreans' accent confuses foreigners?

  • In Sunmi's song "Balloon in Love", she says "no, right?", but I am an American, and it sounds like she said "no, ride?"

How come her accent confused me and probably other foreigners? Is the South Korean accent usually like that?

  • I think is because how they use "d" and "t" sounds that sounds a bit different the english/western langauges, and also the "gh" that couse problems. When you speak other langauges then your own you often try to find the corresponding sound in your own language to remember the word spelling even if they are to exactly the same.
