It's not just America, but the entire Western world is careful about criticizing Israel for one simple reason, they owe their wealth to them. Jews became geniuses when it came to trading. It started in ancient times, when the Romans were at war with Persians for centuries. Jewish traders were friendly to both sides, and were able to master trading techniques and create trading networks none of their peers could achieve. Some say that Christians forced Jews to be traders but this is not really true, because even before Christianity took off Rome depended on a Jewish family to oversee their most important source of income, Egyptian trade and taxation.

And from then on arose a lot of powerful and indispensable Jewish families centered around banking and trade, such as the Goldschmidts, Mendelssohns, Sassoons, Kadoories, Messas, Qawatis, Lehmans, and many others who essentially became more influential than royalty. All Europeans could do is war, colonize and exploit, but it was Jewish folk who figured out how to put it to work and create continuous prosperity from it. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Israel serves two purposes. It takes heat off from these powerful financial families and clans because people are looking at a small piece of land in the Middle East rather than their mega mansions all around the world. The second purpose is that it's a center where a lot of the West's data goes through for analysis, collection and selling, it's a sort of high tech, "neutral" place without civil privacy laws from Western countries.
