What happened to Red Velvet?

  • They were the best performer in SM for spotify and korean charts. But, recent releases are misses. Fans, some sm stans and casual stans here brag about their quality since old akp forum. But, it isn’t there anymore.

They can’t keep up with non-big 3 GGs, k charts and spotify.

    SO WTH HAPPENED HERE?

    Approved the thread.
  • SM music isn't good anymore

  • Red velvets always flops then comed out with a hit later… it doesn’t matter with them if one cb doesn’t do as well imo

They flopped from rbb-umpah umpah then psycho happened. FMR did great and is #11 on year end charts.

  • Their music quality has gone down unfortunately. I fully blame SM. Hope their next album will be better.

Of course agreed with this. But tbh I personally didn’t enjoy the latest album as much as their previous ones and I think talking to some reveluvs irl they agree too. Their b-sides are usually really good but not this time around imo.

  • As usual wrong choice of title track. Rv digital performance are carried by casuals

  • I hope their next album will be better.

  • FMR is going to be a top 10-15 song this year. Afterlike, Hybe Boy, Attention, Tomboy, Antifragile, Love Dive, and Nude are top 7. FMR is in the tier right behind it with Sneakers, INVU, Pop, Run2U, Smiley, Sneakers and Fearless.

  • This has been RV for their career. Some huge hits but a lot of mid and flops in between.

  • sm happened...

This album/title track must be one of their weakest! The producers really heard that song and said yes that's title track material????

The song is forgetful and the mv is childish, they're not a rookie group anymore sm!! I'm hoping for better songs in the future

  • I think this year, if it wasn't clear before to people, has shown that song quality has far more impact on how a song charts than a group's popularity: 4th gen groups and non-Big 4 groups that have far smaller fanbases than Big 3 3rd gen groups, have had their songs dominate the charts, while comebacks of the biggest 3rd gen groups had their songs chart weakly, like BP and TWICE.

Red Velvet never had the biggest fanbase among the top Big 3/3rd gen, but a number of their songs charted really well, and that includes Feel My Rhythm. Birthday, however, just ain't it.

But the fact that groups like Idle and Ivy are slaying all the other groups incl former 3rd gen top groups and Big 4 groups with their songs really says it all: if your song just isn't that great, it won't chart well esp on K-charts even if your fanbase is huge or you have a huge legacy as a group.

  • Queendom and Feel my rhythm did well. Psycho was a true hit. Red Velvet are used to flop but it means nothing for them because they try a lot of sounds and concepts. They don't stick to one sound.
