Jhope album receives critical acclaim. Is this better than good charting?

  • People said it might win KMA too and already acclaimed internationally. Even though it didn’t chart well, the album is more remembered this year for its quality than other soloists’ album that might have hits but quickly get forgotten. Should more soloists follow and focus on quality instead of charting?

    Approved the thread.
  • Only rich idols can afford this, idols need money and in order to have that u got to release mainstream music and promo.

  • I dunno about charting but I adore his album.

    Fully enjoyed it.

  • when bts released mainstream music, people dragged them for being safe. now they went experimental, people are dragging them for flopping. honestly, atp, i don't care. they can't satisfy everyone. i hope they keep doing what they want and be happy with the music choice that they made.

  • For an artist, critical acclaim from your peers is the highest honour.

lets be honest here though, most kpop idols, the majority, are not "artists" creating their own works.

they are manufactured, polished products honed by companies to generate profit

they are the marvel superhero movies created for maximum public consumption, not the lovingly crafted oscar bait

Right, which is why the members are doing their solo projects. To show their artistry, and as usual, people are enjoying it.

BTS fans have never compared the members to the kpop idols, its the kpop fans who've tried to latch their mass produced plastic robots to BTS.

  • I am too greedy of a fan to not want both for him but the music he made was marketed to the wrong audience. He needs a rap audience not kpop/pop. People who are used to easy listening songs aren't going to listen to renditions of 90s industrial hip hop. I regularly listen to this style of music outside of BTS and I knew he wouldn't do well on charts in asian countries the moment I heard the first line of the song.

This is so true I think old armys would've appreciated it, new armys like dynamitish songs.

  • This feels like shade to Namjoon for some reason 🤔 his album was literally just released, I’m sure it will be critically acclaimed with time too.

  • CL always got critical acclaim

    look where it took her

    Not in BTS's case though.

What did they need to prove at this point? They've got everything.

  • 1. JITB did phenomenally great considering hybe treating it like shit. Should I remind you in how many charts it ended even with just digitals?

    2. Considering that Hoseok with JITB aimed for responce about his art from music lovers, critics and professionals (whole JITB era started from legit listening party he made for this purpose), yes, for him it's exactly what he needed and he deserves every praise for his masterpiece. I definitely hope he will get KMA award too.

    3. JITB was made with no kpop and kpop audience, including armys, in mind, this is why Hoseok chose for his first ever performance lollapalooza. It's just different music, very good, god level quality and definitely not what fans who got used to trendy pop sound are ready. In those circumstances what JITB achieved is even more mindblowing. This is why he, btw, like no other member, desperately needed promotion, cause he needed to get out of kpop bubble so, yeah, fck hybe again.
