Some mistakes that I have made in languages that aren't my native

  • I remember when I misunderstood the Danish word "kæreste eje"

I was visiting a woman, who is a friend of my mother, and her granddaughter was there too.

And I remember her saying that her phone was her "kæreste eje" and I told her in Danish: "I didn't know you had a kæreste"

Well... I thought that word meant "something that belongs to my lover", and it actually means something like "the thing I treasure the most"

And then there was also when I was speaking in English and was saying "saler" instead of "salesperson" or "seller"

And it almost sounded like "sailor" lol

And then also when I used to say "tritty" instead of "thirty"

When I went to college, I had to write about a painting in German class, and I wrote "sie hat das Bild zermahlen" instead of "sie hat das Bild gemalt" or actually i can't remember exactly what I wrote, but my teacher had told me that I had written "she has ground this painting".
