it's probably because STAYC are first group from agency, and also it is known that they've had trainee debt
but it was also revealed by Rado himself that they expect to start paying girls in mid-late 2022
but that was in mid october 2021, so I bet even BEP didn't expect then that sales of next releases will grow up
and they are known to eat well, and get expensive gifts from Rado, like iPhones for all members, or professional camera for Yoon.

I think there's perspective as well. Airpod Max's ARE expensive sure, but they aren't eye wateringly so. Could have been a gift, or a post-debt first paycheck splash out maybe.
Funnily, and you cant see it in the picture I posted, but under the blue hoodie, Handong is wearing a Celine sports top that actually costs MORE than the Airpod Max's. At least in Australia.
