Sweet Home (Netflix) Discussion

  • Has anyone else watched it yet? I just finished and had some mixed feelings.

First off I really loved the monster designs. Some of the earlier monsters shown see,Ed to be a mixture of practical effects and CG but I thought they looked great throughout the series. For me the monsters gained the show a lot of goodwill in my book and made me want to keep watching.

Another thing I liked was the setting. From the get go I thought the building it’s,Ed brought a lot of character to the show, it gave off a really grimy and claustrophobic feeling within the upper levels of the building that made it feel as though I was watching someone else’s fever dream. Once the setting focused was brought down to the lower levels of the building I thought a lot of the building’s charm kind of faded off.

While there were some aspects of the show I enjoyed I do feel there was a dip in overall quality around the halfway mark of the show. I felt they veered away from the goofy monster movie vibe and leaned a little too hard on the drama and it started to feel like a CW show, albeit one with much higher production values.

Would love to hear everyone else’s thoughts and opinions. I don’t feel like I wasted my time watching and I would give a second season a chance, or maybe check out the source material if people recommend it.

  • Never thought about the building in-depth - so OP your take is interesting.

It has been a while since I watched it but I also enjoyed the monsters, the acting/direction, action scenes, and overall story. I will def be watching season 2. I didn’t have any gripes re the drama or plot. It’s a Kdrama and I have been watching for a long time to know and expect some things, tropes, and characteristics.

I may rewatch prior to season 2.
