We are entering a generation where physical sales don't reflect popularity anymore

    Approved the thread.
  • stop obsessing about popularity. the groups are making good money that's the end goal anyway.

  • If they are being able to transform casual interest into dedicated fans to buy millions of albums then they are definitely popular

  • Huh, this has been the case since 2010 tho

  • It's always been like this though. Bgs are the obvious example. Most have always been able to sell a ton of albums compared to ggs yet hardly any are able to even do decent on charts.

Albums reflect fandom power, not popularity.

  • THANK YOUUUUUU. making no noise frfr, but making millions of sales

  • It's always been the case. Even if the bubble is wembley stadium sized it's still a bubble. Kpop is a niche genre. Psy is still the only true breakthrough who didn't need campaigns for streaming and donating for sales. Media figures know to parrot the most popular group names, but most of them can't identify any members and don't care to because they see it as a passing fad.

Did Psy sell million albums too? Wow impressive

  • This is nothing recent, been the case since forever. Only kpoppies think their faves are popular and relevant in the music industry

why don’t I use this thread to discredit BTS

Of all the big sellers you really decided to go for the group whose sales actually match their success.

  • rather saying it doesn't show popularity, I would say It doesn't show their fandom size anymore.

4th gens GGs nowadays can sell close to boy group easily, but it doesn't look like they have same fandom size as boy group.
