Is it really kpop anymore when your songs are fully english?

  • more and more songs are releasing in full english as groups continue their quest for western validation. At what point does it stop being kpop and become just pop.

    Approved the thread.
  • Then go listen to groups who sing in Korean, there are so many of them lol

  • Good point, RFL and PV are the only ones that wouldn't fit smack dab in the middle of a Meghan Trainor album

  • if the biggest kpop group is after western validation, don't expect others not to follow them

  • Kpop should be about music but its clearly not that way when parasocial relationships happen between fandoms and idols, so who cares about the language anymore

  • Is it really kpop anymore if the members are Japanese and Vietnamese?

  • BP are a group of 3/4 fluent English speakers, 2/4 grew up in western countries, their primary producer is Korean American...literally why would they not be making songs in English

  • i normally make a big deal out of kpop artists singing too much in english but blackpink ate down so idc.

  • Blinks have been praying for BP's English songs because that's their excuse for BP's songs not surpassing BTS's English singles. They got their wish i guess

  • It's not bp's fault their songs make noise no matter the language. I don't understand when groups other than them or bts do it however

  • the way people who don't even speak korean like to police language in kpop songs more than actual koreans

  • korean music sung in english

  • I blame BTS for this. After the companies saw Dynamite's popularity, they started going for it. First Twice, Aespa and Blackpink. Blackpink have always mixed English a lot in their songs but not this extent.

  • Well, I don't like kpop songs in english and I don't want this "trend" to grow.

  • It's easier to claim records that way.

BP are over doing it now, unlike BTS. BTs's albums are always 90% in Korean. They only have 3 stand-alone English singles which are like 0.5% of their discography
